Week 2- December 30th, 2014

Well this week was crazy. So i guess ill get most of the exciting news out of the way first. christmas day here was pretty awesome. we had a ton of devotionals and a talent show. As for the first devotional we got a visit from Elder Russel M. Nelson and my group got there pretty quickly so we were about three rows away from him. it was a pretty crazy experience. He gave a great talk about the facets of the gospel. im assuming it will be availiable online eventually to find so you guys can all look into that. Speaking of devotionals on sunday we had a devotional and the two speakers were richard elliot ( the organist from the mormon tabrnacle choir, and the other one was David archueletta. I dont know if we have any fan grils out there for him reading this but if there is be jealous. We were about three rows away from them as well. This devotional was pretty much all about music so there wasnt much speaking but there was a lot of singing and awesome organ talent. it was another one of the coolest deviotionals ive been too. all of the devotionals the people are so sincere and nice and just have their heads on straight. They were super nice and even were able to stay and shake hands for a little bit. Not having music is a huge thing for me. I reallllly like music so this week was super nice. Besides hymns and special occasions the only music i get is the shower sing alongs. not sure if i have mentioned those yet but they exist. and people get realllllly into them. Ive started a few off with my wonderful voice and whatnot.
Thanks for all the letters and packages for christmas. It meant a lot to me and some of the things even helped out others as well so you can feel good about that too. Those rubber bands though.... im gonna take a shot in the dark and assume it was chandler that thought of that. needless to say rubber band skirmishes break out every oppurtinity that doesnt ruin us learning or feeling the spirit. So pretty much the residence is a battle zone. And a few others. I might need to be supplied with more.... im running low. The letters have been nice as well. And i promise im working on getting some out but its been a slow going process..... I hope the party house ( tims house) is getting along well without me. they seem to be the ones taking it the hardest. The sisters in our group thought i had no sadness until they saw me get off the phone and also when they saw me read the letters from sissa about the boys and the boys letters. But dont worry. I concealed but still feeled. didnt let it show. but now they now. i know the grammar wasnt perfect but i needed at least one frozen reference in this. i just teared up a bit but was over it right away and worked on making others laugh so as to not be sad. that call broke a few of the elders down for a bit but we all got through it.
Speaking of the sisters one of the sisters got her visa for brazil so she is actually on her plane as i type this. it was a huge mix of happy and sad for everyone. its crazy how close you can get to people in a short amount of time, but she has a great oppurtinity so it is alright. also dont worry no page 33 violations. close platonically.
About those brownies that were sent. i expected them to be from a brownie mix not dear elder..... one of our other elders also got one and we have so much stuff that we have two whole brownie plates waiting to be eaten. But dont worry they are appreciated and i will get around to eating them. if you could send some more it would be hilarious. and i could really get a rise out of elder moeller.... hahah.  Speaking of elder moeller he is from highland so i asked him about chubbys and he has been there but it was only to do the challenge. the wimp couldnt finish his fries after the burger. What a wimp! so Vic you two can be wimps together! at least until you finish that challenge. i cant tell you how much ive been craving chubbys and betos burritos since ive been here. that is another love that elder moeller and i share. everytime i mention it he is filled with rage. it is pretty great. in fact i just said i could go for one and his response was shut up i hate you you are a terrible person. a terrible person. Its pretty great having pretty much elder birky here with me. In fact thats probably why i give him so much tude. but hes a good sport and takes it well. in fact i think he enjoys it too so thats good.
So portuguese is the same as always. Awesome but hard but i take it better then a few of them. some of them have meltdowns due to the language and i feel so bad for them because i cant say just dont worry about it like i do because i understand not everyone can do that. Im pretty good at not worrying about things if i think its better that way. so while everyone else is super angry at it i am laughing at how bad i am. in one of my lessons i couldnt think of how to say prayer makes families closer together and happier, i tried to say it by saying Feliz familia, oracao muito importande, which is happy family, prayer, very important. everyone in the class when we told them about that got a pretty good laugh out of it. my caveman portuguese is probably super interesting to the teacher investigators.
Teachers makes me think of a few things. this week our teacher situation was crazy. lots of subs and other things. we have two regular teachers. one is irma lewis. irma is sister irmao is brother. and the other is irmao nothum. nothum left to see his family for christmas and we got a sub. and the sub was our investigator so that was super interseting. he is from brazil and his english is a but better then our portuguese. quite a bit better actually. he was super funny but his wife was due this week so the first day he was teaching us he stopped halfway through and apologized because he had to go because his wife was in labor with his first child it was awesome. she was born and everything was fine and he was back the next day with pictures. irma lewis actuallhy got engaged the day before and we were the first people to know because it happened the morning of and she had to run to work because she was late. and so she headed home and we got antoher sub. this sub went to cape verde on his missao. finally! the first one! so he told me a bit about it. So the creole of portuguese is i get to learn african language with portuguese. im in for one heck of a time when i get there! he said its not too bad though. i asked some other things about the food and whatnot and its all sounding pretty good. oh yeah another cool thing about irmao machado( it means brother hatchet) hes the one that had the baby. when he went out on his mission he was one of the missionaries that went out before the age change when he was 18 so he was one of the missionaries they sent out to see if it would work. pretty cool huh? So all the teachers here are pretty awesome and are teaching a lot and im trying to get better at all sorts of stuff.
So one fun thing about being here. you guys know how im super good at twisting peoples words right? well i still am. and the sisters hate it. because everytime they say something to me i can twist it to make it sound like they were insulting me. so eventually they started sayign the same thing that i say to elder moeller all the time. which is VIer amei irmao. Its probably spelled super wrong but what it means is come at me brother. or better come at me bro. so 90% of what the sisters say to me is that or one word things like insolete ( sassy) and a few other things. No word twisting for me.
I promise im nice even though i tease so mother dont give me tude! things are still going well with me and elder bannerman but his attitude is still the cut me down to other people and thats about all he says about me but its always to tohers never once has he complained to me about something one of one. so i assume its just what he does. And as some of you know ive dealt with people like this before. which is probably a good thing because i know how to let is slide 90% of the time and the other 10% i will say something pointing it out but not getting angry at him. so i think it shouldnt cause any problems. Coming back to a school like setting makes me remember my least favorite thing about school and thats buillies and talking behind peoples back. and oh it happens. so as of right now that is probably my biggest pet peeve about the mtc. when i hear its about me which a few times it has been it makes me less mad then wehn i hear others do it but its life. people make their own decisions.
Trying to think if i missed anything..... like i said it was an eventful week. Oh cool side note mostly for my brothers and the nephews. during the talent show somebody played simple and clean on the piano. and the FF victory song. I felt like one of the fan sister missionaries for david archuletta! haha but honestly it was a small tender mercy but for me it was honestly pretty dang awesome. ive told some of my companions about how i game with my bros. and it brings back some awesome memories.
OH YEAH. one last thing before i end. well two things. i have two talks for you guys to look up. the first one is something along the lines of nourished by the good word of god or something like that. it is by president judd in oct 2007 general conference. at the time he was first counseloer in the general sunday school. right now he is one of the counsilers in my branch presidency. he actually told me about it and no one else to look up so we looked it up as a class and its pretty awesome. hes a super nice guy.\
the second talk is called the character of christ. this one was an mtc christmas devotional some time ago. i dont rememvber when but it is by elder bednar. and man was it a good talk. we watched it as our film after the music devotional by the elliot and archuletta. and honeslty i dont know which one i liked more. anyways that talk is not for the feint of heart. he is soooo blunt in it. and i love it. it is super good you should all look it up if you feel in the mood for a good upflifting chastisement. like holy cow. it is one of the best talks i think.
so since ive been here ive heard from the presideing bishop and his wife elder nelson and his wife and david archuletta and richard elliot. and some other high up poeple in the mtc. a lot of good devotionals and i have another tonight. not sure who by but im sure it will be great still.
Well time is about up. and i need to send elder birky a quick letter. so love you guys. thanks for all the support and keep doing good. have fun in AZ and whereever else you guys may be. Happy Birthday tomorrow dad if my letter doesnt get out in time. enjoy the rest of your break! Keep the letters coming. til next week!
Love
Elder McMullin
